Phoebe, tell us about JUMP CUT
JUMP CUT is Hong Kong's first ever film festival that is completely curated by the youth. Youths all around Hong Kong with a strong passion of film come together to create what is truly a great and fun festival. What makes JUMP CUT even more unique is the fact that it shows movies in different locations, in pop-up cinemas. JUMP CUT definitely widens your perspective about the world of indie films, and you will have an amazing experience at the same time.

Why should other teens join JUMP CUT?
It is a great experience to be with other people who have the same love of film with you. It's something special to be a part of, so everyone should join up for JUMP CUT this year! Even if you don't get in, just keep on trying 'cause it's really worth the experience. I love it so much, I'm trying to get back on the team this year!

What were your roles?
One was part of the trailer production team and the other was cover designer. I actually designed the image for the JUMP CUT: Youth Edition Open Call! Both were hard to do sometimes since there were quite a lot of people in the group, but that definitely made our outcome better since we fed off each others ideas.

What was your favourite thing about JUMP CUT 2014?
The radio interview. Some members of the group and I went to RTHK 3 to promote the festival, and I really enjoyed that. I had never been to a radio station so it was a new experience. I was a little nervous, but our interviewee Reenita Malhotra Hora made me feel so comfortable and relaxed so it was great!

Some of our funniest times at JUMP CUT was probably when we got to do shoots. One time we were shooting videos that showed who the team was, and between the shoots we were just messing around. We were playing music, dancing around and some of us were dramatically singing 'Let It Go'. That was a lot of fun, just filming and being together!

What does film mean to you?
Film is a very important in my life because it's my form of escape. Others read, play an instrument etc. but I like to indulge myself in movies. I love knowing how the films are made, and all the production side towards. Another thing that interests me about films is that it changes the way I think. It shows me a new perspective towards a topic, so films also shape who I am.

Which film from JUMP CUT 2014 made the greatest impact on you?
Probably 'City of God'. I think it made a big impact on me 'cause when I usually watch crime movies, the actors are usually adults so it's quite hard to relate with them. But since this movie also dealt with coming-of-age, we grew up with the protagonist. It was interesting seeing someone that could only be a few years older than me living a completely different life.
